Major renovations underway on NLHC housing units on Watson Crescent

Extensive upgrading of approximately $240,000 is being completed on a non-profit housing building located on Watson Crescent, in St. John’s. Paul Shelley, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and minister responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), made the announcement today.

“The condition of corporate properties is an ongoing priority for NLHC,” said Minister Shelley. “Through its annual maintenance, modernization and improvement plan, the corporation explores all possible funding options to ensure its social housing portfolio is maintained to an acceptable standard that meets clients’ need and corporate goals.”

The work being done on this 10-unit family building is being completed by NLHC’s own maintenance crews. The refurbishments include new vinyl siding, replacement of doors and roofing and the installation of new windows.

“These renovations provide safe and comfortable housing conditions for tenants, and extend the life of the province’s housing stock, it will also generate considerable economic benefits in the housing industry, and help to create employment opportunities,” added Minister Shelley. The Watson Crescent project is anticipated to be completed by November 30, 2006.
