NLHC begins renovations at Chalker Place

St. John’s – Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), and John Ottenheimer, Minister of Health and Community Services, and MHA for St. John’s East, today announced upgrading and renovation work to be completed on NLHC-owned units at Chalker Place.
Approximately $155,000 has been budgeted for this year to complete exterior renovations on one four-unit building, which includes windows, doors and siding. Electrical upgrading will also be completed on three 10-unit buildings to bring the service up to current electrical code requirements.

“I’m pleased to announce funding for improvements to properties in Chalker Place. NLHC staff and the local Community Improvement Tenant Association have worked hard to enhance community life in this neighbourhood, and the building renovations announced today will help to improve the quality of life within the home for tenants,” said Minister Burke.

“As M.H.A. for St. John’s East, I am delighted that this work is beginning,” said Minister Ottenheimer. “I look forward to seeing ongoing work at Chalker Place continue in years to come.”
