Minister Announces 2014 NL Housing Scholarship Recipients

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has awarded its 2014 Scholarship Awards to tenants currently pursuing post-secondary studies. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000.

Completing a post-secondary education takes hard work, but it has become an increasingly important step to availing of opportunities in our growing economy and securing a prosperous future. I commend the recipients and all applicants and wish them well in their academic studies.”

The following are the 2014 NLHC Scholarship recipients:

Youth Scholarship recipients:

  • Colin Clancey, St. John’s, is a graduate of Prince of Wales Collegiate attending Memorial University;
  • Erika McDonald, St. John’s, is a graduate of Prince of Wales Collegiate attending Memorial University;
  • Courtney Hickey, St. Mary’s Bay, is a graduate of St. Catherine’s Academy attending Memorial University;
  • Melissa Field, Gander, is a graduate of Gander Collegiate attending Memorial University;
  • Devon Osmond, Botwood, is a graduate of Botwood Collegiate attending DieTrac Technical Institute;
  • Jessica Gillingham, Corner Brook, is a graduate of Corner Brook Regional High School attending Memorial University;
  • Katie Howse, Corner Brook, is a graduate of Corner Brook Regional High School attending Memorial University; and<
  • Kristen Curnew, Rocky Harbour, is a graduate of Gros Morne Academy attending College of the North Atlantic.

Adult Scholarship recipients:

  • Stephanie Pomeroy, St. John’s, is currently attending Memorial University;
  • Sarah Roberts, Grand Falls-Windsor, is currently attending College of the North Atlantic; and
  • Jessica Costello, Corner Brook, is currently attending Memorial University.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has awarded its 2014 Scholarship Awards to tenants currently pursuing post-secondary studies. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000.
  • Since 1987, Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation has awarded 264 scholarships throughout the province to support adult tenants and tenants’ children who are pursuing a post-secondary education.
  • Youth scholarships are awarded based on the results of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s scholarship score, which is derived from a student’s performance on public exams.
  • Adult scholarships are awarded based on reviews that assess need, initiative, and community involvement.
