Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has issued an Invitation for Proposals to the non-profit sector for the development of affordable rental housing for low-income senior households.
“The investment of $5.7 million allocated for this invitation for proposals will result in an estimated 45 new affordable non-profit housing units. Non-profit organizations have an extensive history of providing service in the community. They address a societal need not already being met, enabling citizens to positively affect the community in which they live.”
– The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation
The Affordable Rental Housing initiative is funded over the next two years through a $48.9 million Social Infrastructure Fund Agreement which doubles the current Investment in Affordable Housing Program funding between Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and NLHC.
Successful proposals will be eligible for capital assistance in the form of a forgivable loan. The objective is to assist non-profit sector groups in creating affordable rental housing projects to benefit as many low income seniors’ households as possible.
The invitation for proposals will close January 31, 2017.
