Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) is investing $106,000 to renovate two social housing properties on New Pennywell Road in St. John’s. The contract was recently awarded to Eastern Siding Systems Ltd.
“Over the past eight years, modernization and improvement work has made a visible difference to our social housing properties and improved living environments for our tenants. Most importantly it has helped to create stronger, healthier neighbourhoods where people are proud to live.”
– The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation
The duplex building will receive roofing, siding, window and door replacements, along with electrical upgrades and some site work. The anticipated completion date for the project is September 2015.
“I’m delighted to see all the renovation work that is being carried out on our public housing properties, and we continually hear from tenants who are very pleased with the enhanced comfort these improvements bring to their homes.”
– John Ottenheimer, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation
Budget 2015 provides $10 million to NLHC to upgrade 450 social housing units throughout the province. Since 2007, close to 77 per cent of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation units province-wide have received upgrades.
