Upgrades Continue on the Revitalization of St. John’s Neighbourhood

TSG Contracting Ltd. has been awarded a $132,000 contract to provide exterior renovations and various repairs on four Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation homes on Anderson Avenue and Freshwater Road in St. John’s.

Upgrades such as these enhance the social housing portfolio, ensuring we continue to have safe and affordable homes for families and individuals with low-incomes.”

The contract work includes siding, window, door and roofing replacements, as well as attic insulation, plumbing, electrical, and bathroom and laundry room ventilation upgrades. The anticipated completion date for both projects is March 2015.

In 2014-15, Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is investing $10 million to renovate 450 social housing units throughout the province.

$237,000 Investment Supports Social Housing Upgrades in Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation has awarded two contracts, valued at total of $237,000, for upgrades at two social housing homes in the Labrador region.

Green’s Construction Ltd. has been awarded a $112,000 contract to provide exterior and interior renovations on a unit on Main Road, Cartwright, while Cross Fox Construction Ltd. has been awarded a $124,000 contract to provide similar renovations on a unit on Padden Place, Northwest River.

Work on the unit in Cartwright will include siding, window, door and roofing replacements, a conversion from oil to electric heat, interior painting, new flooring and bathroom fixtures, bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans, and a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) unit. The work in Northwest River will include siding, window, door and roofing replacements, along with extensive interior renovations and miscellaneous upgrades. The anticipated completion date for both projects is May 2015.

Minister Announces 2014 NL Housing Scholarship Recipients

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has awarded its 2014 Scholarship Awards to tenants currently pursuing post-secondary studies. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000.

Completing a post-secondary education takes hard work, but it has become an increasingly important step to availing of opportunities in our growing economy and securing a prosperous future.
