Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) is offering land for sale in four areas across the province. The properties are offered for sale “as is” on a first-come, first-served basis and include: 1,378 acres – Pitts Memorial Drive/TCH area, 278 acres – Kenmount Road, St. John’s; four acres – Prince Philip Drive and Windsor Street, Corner Brook; eight acres – Prince Street; 8.8 acres – Hibernia Drive residential area, 2.26 acres – Gladney Street/Hibernia Drive commercial area, Clarenville; and 263 acres – Octagon Pond, Paradise. In total, this offer represents nearly 40 per cent of the Corporation’s banked land holdings not previously in a sales position. The announcement was made today by Art Reid, minister responsible for housing.
“This land is being offered to the private sector, in part, as a response to the market interest that has been expressed in corporation land not currently being developed,” Mr. Reid said. “It is the intention of government to continue providing more opportunities for and encourage more participation by the business community in the development of NLHC assets. These properties will remain available for sale until such time as the corporation receives a fair market offer.”
“While most of the property now being made available is a mix of residential and open space/recreational land, government is reviewing options for the remainder of NLHC land holdings, the bulk of which is commercial/industrial property,” Mr. Reid added. “These options are being considered in conjunction with proposals made to government by industry stakeholders and ongoing discussions NLHC is currently having with towns and cities throughout the province where corporation land holdings are located. A final decision regarding these options is anticipated later this summer.”
The corporation will be accepting offers at its head office on 2 Canada Drive in St. John’s. Those interested in receiving information, plans, descriptions and other particulars pertaining to each site and placement of offers are invited to contact the Property Services Division at (709) 724-3333.
