Education Incentive Program

Education Incentive Program

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) offers an Education Incentive Program for eligible tenants while in full-time attendance at a recognized educational facility.

  • The Education Incentive is $50 for every month that an eligible applicant is in full-time school attendance for grades seven through twelve, Adult Basic Education (ABE) or a post-secondary institution.

Who is eligible?

  • Any NLHC tenant(s) attending grades seven through twelve, ABE or a post-secondary institution.

How much money will I receive?

  • Eligible tenant(s) who submit proof of enrollment and meet attendance requirements will receive $50 for each month that each individual is in school.
  • Funding will be issued by electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the leaseholder. If the leaseholder has not previously received an EFT from NLHC then a direct deposit form will be required from the leaseholder in order to receive funds.

When will I receive the refund?

  • For eligible tenant(s) attending grades 7-12, payments will be made twice a year. NLHC starts accepting requests for payment at the end of the normal school terms, which would be January and June.
  • For those in post-secondary institutions, NLHC starts accepting requests for payment at the end of each semester. For example, at Memorial University, the semesters end in April, August and December.
  • Please note, payments can take eight (8) weeks or more to process.

How do I apply?

  • Tenants must provide NLHC with a letter from the school for each eligible tenant(s), for the most recent school year, stating the student was in full-time attendance and the exact date of the school term for which you are requesting the incentive funding. Please note that retroactive payments for prior years are not available.
