Premier Announces Senior Appointment

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the appointment of John Ottenheimer as CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC).

“Mr. Ottenheimer is a well-respected and accomplished individual who will bring a great deal of experience and knowledge to the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. As a lawyer and former cabinet minister, he has a strong knowledge of government processes and the work of departments to support clients of the NLHC. I wish him every success as he takes on this challenging and rewarding role.”

Mr. Ottenheimer assumes the position from Tom Lawrence, who was interim CEO at the NLHC since August of 2014. Mr. Lawrence is returning to his former role with the NLHC.

Mr. Ottenheimer’s appointment is effective Monday, July 27.

BACKGROUNDER
Biographical Information

John Ottenheimer
John Ottenheimer is a practicing lawyer in St. John’s, a former high-school teacher and principal, as well as past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nalcor Energy. He was a member of the provincial House of Assembly from 1996 to 2007, during which time he held several Cabinet portfolios. In addition to his law practice, he has been a lecturer on education law at Memorial University and property law at College of the North Atlantic.

Mr. Ottenheimer’s volunteer pursuits include his roles as past director and fundraising chair with the Newfoundland and Labrador Heart and Stroke Foundation and Honourary Chair, Eastern Avalon Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada. He is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as an Honourary Member of The Elks Service Club.

Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2004, Mr. Ottenheimer holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Windsor. He attained the degrees of Masters of Education, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Memorial University. Mr. Ottenheimer also holds an Institute of Corporate Directors Certification from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
